Announcing the
Traditions Education Program:
a developmental painting
curriculum for all skill levels
from beginner to advanced.

Whether you are a beginning student interested in the art of decorative painting or a more experienced painter who has begun to look for more, this is the series for you! Spend one day or evening a week in the company of other artists exploring your creativity and investing in your art education.

While you paint beautiful trays, trunks and other surfaces for your home this system will take you from the basics to the advanced in painting techniques, fill in the blanks and provide the advanced painter with knowledge that was missed while "just painting projects".

The Traditions curriculum is a sequential series consisting of four modules (A, B, C and D) with ten lessons in each module (for a total of 40 lessons) that gradually increase in difficulty, each lesson building one on the other. During each class you will enjoy the fellowship of other students, the joy of creativity, the pride of accomplishment and the knowledge of the rich history of decorative painting styles.

Module A: Beginning Level Classes

Module A lessons are especially appropriate for students who have never painted, who have painted on a limited basis or have painted in oils and need to be brought up to speed on current acrylic painting techniques. These lessons are also a prerequisite for experienced painters who are interested in the more advanced techniques in Modules B and C. We are dividing Module A into four, six-week sessions with the first session covering Lessons 1-4. Beginners who complete the first session will then have the opportunity to complete the entire program.

Paint

It is a requirement of the Traditions Education Program that students paint with the JansenArt Traditions line of paint by DecoArt. It is the finest quality acrylic paint with light fast artist grade pigments that enable a small drop to cover three times the surface of other paints. The paint is the most advanced, state of the art acrylic which includes properties that enable a decorative artist to use techniques never before possible using acrylic paint. In addition to the entire line of Traditions paints and mediums we offer an economical beginner’s 10-pack.

Surfaces

The first session of classes introduces the beginning painter to basic methods of preparing wood surfaces. Subsequent lessons introduce metal and canvas surfaces. Students are offered a certain amount of flexibility in their choice of the actual shape and style of the surface. However, it is a requirement that the surface be purchased at The Apple Tree in conjunction with the Traditions Program.

Other Supplies

There is a supply list available from The Apple Tree which outlines supplies needed for the first session. A Beginner’s Kit is available for purchase which contains the basic supplies. Other supplies can be purchased on an as needed basis during the session.

So...what are you waiting for? Sign up for one of our beginner's
classes today and watch out! A new world awaits!
